What are channels and gates in Human Design?

In Human Design, beyond centers and types, there are gates and channels. Gates are 64 “points” on the bodygraph centers, linked to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching; each gate carries its own theme or quality. Channels are the connections between two gates, linking two centers. When an entire channel is defined (activated) for you, it provides a stable talent, trait, or energy—something that is consistently “yours.” It is largely the channels that “switch on” the centers and shape your unique design: each person has their own set. This is the most detailed level of the chart, explored after type, strategy, and authority. Honest framing: this is a symbolic system, not a science.
