How is compatibility calculated in the Chinese zodiac?

Animal compatibility is determined by 'triangles' of friendship and opposing pairs; signs within the same group get along, while opposite ones face more challenges.

✔ Avatarium breakdown
Compatibility in the Chinese zodiac is determined by the relationships between the 12 animals. They are divided into four 'compatibility triangles'—groups of three signs that get along well and strengthen each other. For example, the Rat, Dragon, and Monkey form one friendly triangle; the Tiger, Horse, and Dog form another.

There are also 'opposing' pairs—animals standing opposite each other in the cycle (for example, Rat and Horse, Tiger and Monkey): these find it harder, as their rhythms are too different. The elements of the signs are also taken into account.

But, as in Western astrology, this is only a guide.

Honest framing: there are no 'incompatible' pairs—only those who need more understanding; an animal sign does not decide for living people. You can explore compatibility by sign in the Chinese zodiac, and deeper by date in the Destiny Matrix.
