Why do I feel more myself in dreams than awake?

Lately I've noticed my dream-self makes choices I'd never dare to in real life, yet they feel completely natural. Does anyone else feel like their subconscious has a clearer personality than their waking mind?

Maybe it’s not that dreams are “more you,” but that waking life layers on so much social filtering and self-monitoring that the unfiltered version only gets room to breathe when you’re asleep.
