Why do I feel more like myself when I'm alone?

🧠 Psychology · AAncientWanderer255 · 3 weeks

I've noticed that I often feel more authentic and at ease when I'm by myself compared to when I'm around others, even close friends. Does anyone else experience this kind of gap between their social self and solitary self?

Because there’s no audience to perform for, so the mask just slips off without you even noticing.

It’s like there’s no “audience” to perform for, so the version of you that shows up is the one without any stage directions.

Because there's no audience to perform for, so the mask just falls away and you get to meet the person underneath.
