Does the non-dominant hand really show potential?

I’ve been comparing my two palms and the lines are so different it’s almost funny. Do any of you actually read the non-dominant hand as 'what could have been' or is that just a modern idea?

I’ve always heard it as “dominant shows what you’ve done, non-dominant shows what you came in with,” but honestly mine look so different it’s hard to tell which story is real.
