I've had a secondhand copy of Borges' Labyrinths on my shelf for years, but I've never actually read it. Lately I've been getting this weird, nagging feeling that the book is annoyed with me for ignoring it.

I get that same vibe from certain old mirrors, like they've absorbed too many reflections and are just waiting to show you something you didn't mean to see.

I get that with certain old paperbacks where the previous owner’s marginalia is so intense it feels like the book is reading you back.
