Does anyone else feel like childhood memories have a different texture?

Sometimes when I try to recall being a kid, the images feel more like faded photographs than actual lived moments. It makes me wonder if the 'child matrix' is just how our brain organizes a time before we had the words to narrate it.

Yeah, mine almost have a grain to them, like old film or sun-bleached fabric. Do you ever get the feeling the texture changes depending on whether you’re remembering the moment itself or remembering a photo of it?

Totally — the photo-memories feel flatter and more static, like they’re laminated, while the lived ones have a breathing, almost sun-warmed softness around the edges.

Yeah, mine almost have a kind of warm static around them, like they were recorded on older film. Do yours ever shift in texture the more you retell them?

Yes, mine soften at the edges the more I share them—like a favorite photograph getting gently handled until the corners go velvety and the light feels a little closer.
