Feeling pressure in my chest during breathwork, not sure what to make of it

Lately when I focus on slow breathing, I get this weird tightness right around my sternum that fades as soon as I stop. Is that something people associate with the heart chakra, or am I just sitting weird?

Could be the heart center waking up, or just your body adjusting to the new pattern — where exactly does it sit when you breathe into it?

For me it sits slightly left of center, not on the bone — more like a warm, dense pocket just behind the sternum that softens when I stop forcing the inhale and let the breath pool there.

That tightness often eases if you visualize the breath moving through the back of the heart space instead of the front of the chest — have you tried tilting your focus that way?

I haven’t tried that specific tilt, but it makes sense — focusing behind the heart always feels softer and less “pushy” for me than aiming at the front of the chest. I’ll give it a go next session and see if the tightness loosens up that way.

That kind of pressure can just be your attention landing there more than usual, especially if you're breathing into the upper chest. Does it feel more like a blockage or like the area is waking up?

Honestly, for me that “waking up” feeling usually has a little heat or a subtle buzz with it, while a blockage tends to feel more heavy, tight, or like I’m pushing against a wall — if you sit with it a few more breaths, the texture of the sensation might tell you which way it’s leaning.
