I've been reading charts for a few years now and honestly, my rising sign feels way more like 'me' than my sun sign ever did. Is that just a normal part of getting deeper into it, or am I missing something fundamental?

Totally. I think the whole chart matters way more, especially your rising sign—it's literally the mask you wear for the world, so no wonder the sun sign can feel like a stranger sometimes.
