What is Leela
Leela (Sanskrit "play") is an Indian practice of self-knowledge on 72 squares described by Harish Johari. The point is not to "win" but to reflect: each square is a state of consciousness, and where the die leads mirrors your inner path. Arrows (virtues) lift you, snakes (vices) return you to lessons. The goal is square 68, Cosmic Consciousness.
🎲 How to play — in short
- Set an intention. A question or theme you enter with. Without it Leela is just Snakes & Ladders; with it, a mirror.
- Be born on a six. To enter the board you must roll a 6. Every 6 earns another roll.
- Move and read the square. You stop where you land, and the guide reads that square through your intention.
- Arrows lift, snakes return. 9 arrows (virtues) raise you, 10 snakes (vices) drop you to lessons.
- The goal is square 68. Cosmic Consciousness. Reached by the arrow from 54 or an exact roll.
🗝️ Key squares
Entry into the game. The start of the path in body and world.
The first lesson: the world is not always what it seems.
The one arrow straight to the goal — square 68.
A snake right by the goal: pride throws you back to anger (square 3).
The goal. Return to wholeness.
Overshot the goal — this square returns you to earth to rise again.
💡 Where the game and growth are
The die gives chance — you give meaning. The same arrows and snakes recur: your patterns made visible. The guide ties the square to your intention and your Destiny Matrix, asks a question — and when you answer honestly, you receive a reflection of what you did not name. The work happens not in the roll but in your answer. Note what resonates — the path across the board becomes a map of your inner life.
